If you have a cherished love for the church and its teachings and would like to share this with those around you, you may be interested in serving in one of the faith-formation ministries.
Catholics who practice their faith and lead lives in harmony with Catholic teaching qualify to be catechists, sponsors or supporters of the faith. Courses are available for those who would like to bone up on teaching skills and the Church’s Catechism. Being a member of the Church for several years is useful so that you can share with others the lived experience of the faith community.
Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism for children is held by appointment. It is a wonderful rite to witness and a very special privilege to be part of. If you would like to sing or play an instrument at Baptisms as well as help in the preparations of the sacrament, join our team.

Children’s Liturgy
Each Sunday at the 11am Mass, two instructors take the children to the basement for separate Catechism instruction on the readings of the day. The children range in age from 3 to 8. They use pre-printed instructional materials to convey the main ideas behind the Gospel of the day. If you are a young adult or a young parent you may find this job quite fulfilling.

Parish Religious Education Program (PREP)
The general goal of all religious education is to foster discipleship and Christian living at a variety of developmental stages. The specific goals for religious education are to teach students, inquirers and catechumens to:
KNOW GOD: By imparting knowledge of the faith which will enable those interested to respond to God’s call and enter into a personal relationship with God and the community.
LOVE GOD: By forming disciples of Christ who witness through their love of God, self and neighbour in their daily lives.
SERVE GOD: By fostering service of God and
neighbour.
FAQ:
What is a job description for a catechist?
A catechist is one who will faithfully transmit the teaching of the Church to the students entrusted to them. You should be willing to take the time to pray and develop your own spiritual life. You should be conscientious in preparing and implementing lessons.
How do I prepare for this role?
There are many helpful courses, formation programs, workshops and retreats offered by the Archdiocese throughout the year. You should be willing to attend some of them. Being open to help and suggestions from the Coordinator in the preparation of lessons is useful. Leading a way of life that is consistent with Catholic standards is also a necessary quality as actions speak louder than words.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults
(RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults begins every year in October and ends a week after Easter in April. The group meets every Tuesday evening. Preparing newcomers to enter the church is a joint effort which requires not just the priest but a group of enthusiastic parishioners who are eager to impart the faith either as a catechist, sponsor or supporter.
FAQ:
What are the qualities of a good Catechist?
You should have a solid grounding in your faith and be willing to share the teachings of the Church faithfully. Having a healthy prayer and spiritual life is also important. Taking the time to attend helpful preparatory courses is recommended.
What are the qualities of a good Sponsor?
A good sponsor is one whom the Associate Pastor deems able to help the candidate through the process. Also, one who is trustworthy, able to maintain confidentiality and can be a good Christian model for the catechumen or candidate.
Do I have to be there every week?
As a catechist, sponsor or supporter, your presence and interaction with the class is important to the growth and understanding of the students. A good attendance rate simply makes you a caring and faithful companion on the faith-journey of the adults.

Youth Ministry
If you are between 17 and 30 you could be a leader or supporter of the Youth Ministry. The group gets together on the last Sunday of each month two hours before the 5pm Mass to exchange ideas and to get a deeper understanding of the theme of the day’s Mass. Talks, social justice activities and thought-provoking games are played to deepen the spiritual experience of the teenagers who attend.
FAQ:
What sort of opportunities are there?
We would like young adults of faith who are musical, artistic or creative with technology to join us in exploring new possibilities for the expression of our faith at Mass or in the pre-Mass activities. You would be part of a team of people which plans the activities for Mass.
