Our Lord instituted the Eucharist to perpetuate the sacrifice of the Cross as a memorial of his death and resurrection for the ages to come until his return. The sacrament of the Eucharist is the rite by which the whole faith community participates in the sacrifice of his Body and Blood. Weekly attendance at Mass and receipt of this sacrament is at the heart of our identity as Catholics.
